Bookworm Bookshop was established in a tiny premises on West Gate in Thurles in 1993. Over the years the business outgrew its space and subsequently moved premises not once but twice! Bookworm has traded from it’s current location at the junction of Parnell Street and Liberty Square since the first day of the new millennium! Our store is over 2000 sq.ft. and stocks a broad range of books from many genres.
Since 1993 Bookworm has established a name as one of the leading independent bookstores in Ireland. Apart from what we stock in the shop we are always happy to order books which we do not have. Customer service is our priority and we do our utmost to source any book a customer requires, no matter whether the book is widely available or ‘as rare as hens teeth’!
Over the years we have broadened our offering in other areas of the store. We now stock a wide range of musical instruments and accessories, particularly suitable for the beginner but also for more seasoned musicians! In the past couple of years we have also added a coffee shop. This is a quiet area of calm and tranquility at the back of the shop (though not that tranquil when our knitting circle are in full flight!!), which is ideal if you want to read in a bit of peace or avail of our free wi-fi.
Our knitting circle, aka The Bookworm Crafters meet every Friday morning to knit, stitch and talk kindly about their friends!! This is a welcoming bunch who love to share their skills, crafts and experience with each other and with anyone looking to learn. Anyone is welcome to come along on Fridays and join them, whether it is occasionally or every week.
Every Tuesday morning we host our ‘Irish Coffee’ group who meet for caint agus comhra as Gaeilge. This is open to everyone and anyone who is interested in brushing up their Irish and willing to give coversation as gaeilge a shot! Beidh fáilte roimh gach éinne!
