Josie Butler (Siobhan de Buitleir) was born at Annfieldin the parish of Inch near Thurles, Co. Tipperary. On her marriage in the 1940s to farmer Toby Tynan, Rathmoy, Borrisoleigh, she took up residence there. Many of the reminisiences and poems in this collection first appeared in the Irish Press, Cork Examiner, Fr. Matthew Record, Assis and Cois Deirge. All of Josie's writings are based on real people and actual happenings in her native area, but with occasional enhancements and fictional names. Her artistry of observation and recall of the expressive language of the people portray traditional Irish countrry life that endured until compartively recently.
