County Tipperary in the period prior to Irish independence was an extraordinary place. Events of social and political upheaval, more than anywhere else, were visited upon the population of the county between 1919 and 1923. This book attempts to shed some light on the course of these events and explain why they occurred. Whenever the war of Independence in Tipperary is mentioned, three names are invariably associated with it, Soloheadbeg, Sean Treacy and Dan Breen. The stories of these men and place have probably overshadowed the memory of the many other participants in the War of Independence in Tipperary. This book describes some of those other people involved in the Anglo Irish struggle and how their lives were marked by the terrible events of those years.
